Scream 3
Rating: 3 out of 5

Every good franchise has a trilogy: There’s the original Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, The Godfather, and Step Up (Ok, maybe not Step Up)… and as of 2000, Scream was labeled under a trilogy.  Does this franchise get better as the movies progress, or should they have stopped at Scream 2?

Scream 3 is definitely a guilty pleasure, it in no way compares to the original… or even the second.  Scream 3 almost seems like a text book slasher movie from the 80’s – (minus the gratuitous nudity) – it features good carnage, a mindless script, and under-par acting.  It is definitely a formula for a semi-fun/mindless movie.

There’s not much to say about Scream 3, it’s pretty much another carbon copy of the first two with a different killer (or killers?) revealed in the same technique near the end.  This is without a doubt the cheesiest of the three; cheesy dialogue, cheesy acting (mainly by Parker Posey), and a cheesy appearance by Jay and Silent Bob… yes, that’s right… Scream 3 features a cameo by fictional characters seen in the Kevin Smith movies!  But even though it had more cheese than a grilled cheese sandwich, I still enjoy following the Scream franchise and enjoy seeing Neve Campbell miraculously escaping the grasp of the killer.

On a positive note; the opening sequence finally features a major cast member in the Scream trilogy – a step up from the previous two.  And I honestly enjoyed the killer(s) – their origin story that is revealed at the end of the movie actually makes sense and I highly enjoyed how Scream 3 and the first Scream were connected.  It definitely had a stronger plot than the second Scream.
