Once Upon A Time: The Complete First Season
Rating: A

Every now and then a show will come along that will change the way you look at television or the way you look at your favorite childhood stories.  ‘Once Upon A Time’ is one of those shows.

From the highly acclaimed writers of LOST comes ‘Once Upon A Time’ – a modernized twist to the beloved stories we grew up with as children.  The Evil Queen casts a spell on an enchanted forest – a forest that is filled with all of the classic fairytale characters that we remember.  The curse traps these characters in a place where their “happy endings” were stolen.  The place is not a fairytale, it’s not a make-believe location – it is our world.  Faced with a future with no happy ending and no memory of their past – the inhabitants of Storybrooke are trapped and blinded by the town mayor – the Evil Queen.

If I can say anything about this series is that it is completely original, ambitious and creative.  The way they merge the two worlds – the fairytale world and our world – is just so creative and fun.  I’ve said this so many times in many of my show reviews, in a world filled with cop dramas and reality television, this is a breath of fresh air!  No, not every episode is perfect.  In fact, it can get a little monotonous, drawn out, and tiresome… but a lot like LOST… it knows how to bring you back into the story and it’s easy to forgive its shortcomings.

The cast is superb.  Each actor and actress brings a new attribute to the table, and although most of them aren’t household names – it truly is a dream cast.

Is it a perfect show?  No, of course not.  But it oozes creativity that is always welcome in my house.  Don’t miss the chance to own it on Blu-ray and DVD.
