First, I just wanted to start off with a little bit about your background.  I know you started in commercials – what kind of commercials did you start off with?

Yeah – well, the first commercial that I did was actually for a Dodge Caravan.  And then I went on to do Glade and Midas – I mean, I did like thirty commercials… I can’t remember all of them, but those were some of the ones I did at the beginning.

What was the next step out of commercials?

Well, then I did a movie called Daddy Day Care with Eddie Murphy.  And that was the first movie that I did.  Then after that I started taking roles, that’s kind of how I really got into the acting world.

Yeah, I was doing research last night and I didn’t realize that you were ‘The Flash’ in Daddy Day Care until last night.  That’s hilarious.

Yeah. [laughs] Yeah, I still have that suit.  I put it on every once in a while, but I get stuck.  [laughs]

Now – did you learn anything filming Daddy Day Care with Eddie Murphy?

Um, honestly I was so young… I don’t even remember really very much.

From there – you’ve done some hugs stuff… all the way from Star Trek to Poseidon.  Out of all of the movies you’ve done, which one has been your favorite to shoot?

Probably Poseidon – because it was a six month shoot and we did a whole bunch of pre-production with stunts and I got scuba certified so I was in a giant pool doing all kinds of crazy stuff getting certified.  So that was fun.

Yeah, I’m a huge Kurt Russell fan – what was it like working with Kurt Russell?

Oh, Kurt was awesome.  Every single person on that set was really nice… Richard Dreyfuss was awesome, I run into him every once in a while.  But yeah, they were all really nice.

I reached out to your Twitter fans earlier this week and I got a lot of great Twitter questions.  So let’s start with the first one.  It’s from @rainbowdannii, she wanted to know “Is there going to be another No Ordinary Family series?”

Um, no.  Sadly that was our first and last season.  But, there are going to be better things to come.

I’m sure you guys were all bummed to hear that the show didn’t get picked up for another season.

Yeah.  I mean, it was difficult – we were put on against NCIS and Glee and towards the end we were up against American Idol.  So we kind of all knew that it was coming.  It was just really hard, those were the top three shows on TV and we were up against all of them.  That was difficult.

Do you have a dream actor or actress that you would love to work with in the future?

Uh, yeah.  Leonardo DiCaprio.

Awesome.  Good choice.

I was actually really bummed, I was in a movie that he produced and the one day that I had to go out of town… he came in and visited… I was so bummed.  [laughs]

I read that you were a big fan of Inception when it was out…

Oh yeah, I’ve seen it eight times.  Probably four times in the theater and then four times at home.

So is it safe to say that you would love to be part of a Christopher Nolan movie in the future?

Oh yeah, one hundred percent.

Let’s get to the next Twitter question.  This is from @JULIAIsHot, “Ask Jimmy Bennett about his perfect girl.”

My perfect girl.  I mean, there’s always the look factor… but to me the most important thing is… You know, the business that I’m in its kind of good for the girl to understand what I have to do on a daily basis and that I go out of town a lot.  So someone who is really understanding and drama free.

Great answer.  Now, do you have a favorite chick that’s in a band?

Probably Taylor Momsen, I think she’s pretty hot.  And she’s a rocker, so that adds about ten points. [laughs]  You can tell her I said that too [laughs] – if you ever do a phoner with her.

Movie 43 is a movie that comes out later this year – what can you tell me about that movie?

Um, there’s not a lot I can say about it.  There’s definitely some crazy funny stuff that me and Chloë do.  So I guess you are just going to have to look out for it.  I don’t think I’m really allowed to say much.

Are you able to say who is in your segment?  Which actor or actress?

Um, I think so.  Oh well, whatever – if I get in trouble it doesn’t matter.  Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloë Moretz and me.

Ok, very nice.

Yeah.

Let’s do another Twitter question.  Let’s do a little pop quiz, this one comes from @CamilleSmile13… “Do you know where Slovakia is?”

Slovakia?  I swear I’ve heard of it, but I cannot point it out on the map.

She says “Because we know where you are.”… that sounds a little creepy if you ask me. [laughs]

Yeah, I hope not. [laughs]

It’s actually in central Europe, I had to look it up too.  I knew the place, I just didn’t know where it was at.

Yeah, I’ve heard of it… I just couldn’t tell you which continent it was in.

Do you do a lot of traveling yourself?

Yeah, I do… but not really out of the country.  The only places I’ve been out of the country were Canada and Mexico.  Oh, and the Bahamas, but never really out of our continent I guess.

Have you run across any creepy stalkers yet?

Uh, yeah.

What can you tell me about that?

I mean, stalkers are alright.  But sometimes they come to my parents restaurant and ask for me, and that gets a little creepy.

Let’s get to another Twitter question since we are talking about traveling, this is from @Bieber1DMahone: “Will Jimmy ever come to Toronto?”

Yeah, I’ve been there twice before.  I love it there.

Next Twitter question is from @jordie_tommo: “Have you ever been to Australia?”.  I guess you’ve already answered that by saying you’ve never been anywhere else.

No, I haven’t… but I have a friend who lived in Australia for a while.  So I kind of know a little bit about Australia, but I’ve never been there.  It sounds awesome.  Although they have those crazy little jelly fish that kill you, so I don’t know. [laughs] And they’re like the size of your fingernail so you can’t really watch out for them, you know?

Photo Credit: Harley Kemp[laughs] That’s crazy.  Alright, let’s move on to your singing career.  How’s that going so far?

Good, I’m actually at the studio right now.  Just working on a few songs.  We’re going to try to get these songs done – and shop it around.  I’m not sure what the next move is.  I don’t know if we’re going to put a little EP with these songs that we have or try to finish the whole album.  Because I kind of want to give everyone a real full product.  And I’m working with a really good producer, his name is Andy Jones.  He’s been around since the seventies… he recorded Led Zepplin, Cinderella, [The Rolling] Stones… you name it.  Plus, I got the original drummer of the L.A. Guns – which was a really big rock band in the eighties.  So, I’ve got a really good people on the project.

Sounds like you are really pushing to the “rock” genre.

I can’t really stand all of the hip and all of the hop today.  It’s been done so many times now, I’ve gotta switch it up.

I actually found some of your stuff on YouTube and I must say that it was good, it wasn’t what I expected.

Oh yeah, that kind of stuff – I guess it was just me playing in my room… that was really before I took singing lessons.  “Over Again”, that was one of my slower songs, but right now we are putting together six real rock songs.  And there’s a ballad in there that I’m really excited to show everyone.

Let’s go to another Twitter question about your singing.  “Have you ever written a song while thinking about a girl?” – this is from @ILoveJBENNETT.

Yeah, most of our songs are about a girl.  Or just girls in general.  I listen to eighties rock all of the time, so I think that’s some good motivation to write some songs about girls.

When I was doing some research for the interview last night, I really got tired of seeing two words on almost every single page… the words “Justin Bieber” showed up a lot.  How do you feel about that?  Your music isn’t like his, but you are being compared a little to him.

Yeah.  I mean, I have my opinions about Justin Bieber and I’m not saying they are bad – but, the music that I like and listen to is “rock”.  I mean, I appreciate everyone’s talent and what everyone does – and he’s one of the biggest stars right now.  But, I think what I’m trying to do is something that I truly love and enjoy doing.  And I couldn’t see myself doing “pop” and stuff like that.  That’s why I’m just hoping that kids are going to see a younger package bringing back music that was real and good with instruments.  I mean, back in the day – the reason that these bands like Mötley Crüe and Guns N’ Roses are still around today… is because of the music they played.  It gave longevity to their careers… what I’m really hoping to do.  I hope people are ready and can handle the “rock”.

Well, if you are ever the next rockin’ Justin Bieber… just do me a favor and save Selena Gomez for me.  That’s all I ask.

[laughs] No problem.  [laughs] Ok.

The next Twitter question is from @JULIAIsHot: “Ask Jimmy about his hobbies besides music and acting”

Um, I try to surf.  It doesn’t really work out very well.  I go out there every once in a while – go to the beach and skate.  The main thing I do is just write, and if I’m not writing I’m going out to meetings.  So that’s kind of what I do.

Alright, let’s close this out with one more Twitter question.  It’s from @mrsalamiamad: “What’s his favorite candy or color?”

Favorite candy?  Um, let’s see.  I really like sour stuff, I think definitely Sour Patch Kids for sure.  My favorite color?  My two favorite colors, they kind of go together, are black and red.

That’s mine as well.

Nice.

We have very similar tastes in movies and music, so I guess it goes with the “rockin” theme.

Well, yeah.  I mean, right now I’m wearing a black and red flannel with black pants and a black bandana.  At my parents’ restaurant, their whole walls are black and red.  They even tried to paint our house black and red.  But then realized that it looked a little demented.  [laughs]

Alright man, do you have any closing comments?

I hope people see my music for what it is and really give it a chance.  Because this is music that the greats back in the eighties – those were my influences so hopefully I can influence people into changing their mind about music and hopefully change the game.  And that is my closing statement. [laughs]
