Gran Torino brings a new meaning
to the old saying: "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" -- well, in this case the movie shows us how people
who are set in their ways can change and change for the better ... and it's possible to learn new tricks as long as you
have the right teachers.
Clint Eastwood was the perfect choice for this film; I don't
think it would have been possible to even create this movie without Clint ... what other seventy-nine year old man can be
taken so seriously in a role that requires this much attitice -- all while putting fear into punks threatening to disturb
his way of living. No one else comes to mind except for Clint; he makes the movie.
Clint plays an old war veteran who is so set in his ways that he can't tolerate hardly anyone anymore; not even his own
kids. He later learns that not everyone that is different from him is bad, and he befriends the family next door that
is being tormented by one of the town's gangs. It's slow starting, but that gives you the opportunity to fully
understand each character.
The film turns out to be a good moral stand on crime
in our world today; showing us that one man can make a difference... no matter how it's done.
