Your time on Harper’s Island was short
lived – tell me about it.
Yeah, my time on Harper’s was short, but sweet – it was awesome.
My character was one of the first characters that the writers developed after they developed the main cast, and they wanted
someone who could develop the story more and push things along – they wanted her to be local. So they came up
with the story – she’s the girl who stayed after her mom is killed by Wakefield… she stays, but Abby leaves.
So she’s this poor gal who is pointed at and whispered about behind her back – everyone knows her tragedy.
I loved her because she’s kind of like what Abby could have turned out like if she stayed, and I thought it was pretty
awesome that she got everything she wanted within the first three episodes … other than dying. [laughs] She gets to
go to L.A., she’s got this great guy… he’s just like her – a little to the left, but I thought it
was perfect.
What did they tell you about your character before shooting?
Absolutely
nothing. I knew nothing about my character; I didn’t know how long I was going to be there… all I knew
is that she was a little bit goth. By the second episode the producer pulled me aside and told me the back story of
where she was coming from – that she is the mirror to Abby.
Did you have to change your personality
one-hundred percent – or are you a little like Kelly?
What I like about her character – everyone
is a little like that – there is sometime in our lives when we’re all the outcast. So I feel that there
is a little bit of Kelly in everyone; it’s in me too – I came from a small town… Ali Liebert and I actually grew up in the same community… she played Nikki… she’s a kick ass gal. It was kind
of the same thing; everybody knows everybody… so I’d say that’s where Kelly and I are the same, but I don’t
have any tattoos – Kelly had nine. [laughs]
John Wakefield ended up being alive; do you think that
Kelly actually knew this or was she imagining it?
After seeing the end of the show; I think she was telling
the truth – I think that she saw him… no one else would be wanting him to come back – no one else would
be looking for him; everyone else thought he was dead.
Tell me about the scene where you are hanging
from the ceiling; were you on a harness?
Yeah, it was a very uncomfortable day. I don’t know
how many hours I actually hung for, but I think I was shooting that for seven hours – I was in this very small harness
that got very intimate [laughs] – they would string me up by two wires… one on my front shoulder and one on my
back right shoulder, and the rope actually had to be tight so it looked like my full weight was hanging from it. So,
during the scenes that we were actually shooting … the rope was very tight around my neck; I had to take
very
small breaths… and a little bit of chafing. [laughs] It was a lot of fun; the crew was awesome – I had some really
great stunt people on hand in case anything happened.
What was it like going from that scene where you’re
hanging from the ceiling to the scene in the morgue where you played a corpse?
Wasn’t that creepy?
It was pretty awesome – the death makeup for that corpse scene… you didn’t get to see very much of it…
it was kind of creepy. So I went from hanging and not breathing to lying and not breathing – I think it’s
easier to hang and not breathe. It was tons of fun.
You were also wearing red contacts?
Yeah, those were very big contacts – they cover your entire eyeball. I actually didn’t have a problem
wearing them; they felt fine… they did a really good job at fitting them. Every once in a while I’d catch
myself in the mirror walking to the trailer… “Oh, I look bad”. [laughs] Not a look you want to wear out.
After your time on the show was done; did you have any guesses on who the killer was?
I
was completely in the dark. I really had no clue when I left the show; I thought it could be a local – I thought
maybe it could be Wakefield, but I never would have guessed in a million years that it was who it was.
What
else are you working on?
I’ve been working on a couple of things, but tomorrow I’m flying
to to shoot a Christmas movie called A Dog Named Christmas; it’s actually got a really sweet story… it’s
an idea that I hold dear… it circles a little bit around pet shelters and adoption – it’s going to be really
cute and I’ve never done a Christmas movie before… so that will be fun.
So you go from a horror
show to a Christmas movie…
Oh, I’ve done a few things since then – I’ve gone
from a horror show to "Smallville" to another where I played Lieutenant in the military, but then I had a really
great experience… this one was the best; I had a supporting lead role in a fantastic indie feature called Amazon
Falls – directed by Katrin Bowen. It’s just an interesting story of ambition at what cost…
so that was a lot of fun. It was a movie that the director was working on another film that funding got pulled from
– she had to do something so she called up a writer friend and within three weeks of having the idea she had a script
written and cast – they’re currently editing and it’s only been a concept for two months now. Pretty
amazing.
